BNSF Seligman Sub Z Train
Author: zchcsse

I was up early this morning and heard that Amtrak #3 was running about 7 hours late so I went to nearby Park Moabi, CA along BNSF's Seligman Sub to catch it.  (This location is ~1 mile from the crossing of the Colorado River at Topock.)  In addition to Amtrak, BNSF fielded 3 Z-trains, and this clip features the third of those.

The reefer boxcars on the head end of the train are a spotting feature of the ZSTOWSP6 this time of week.   The entire train is shown.   The locomotive consist also featured some Santa Fe and BN Executive colors.

The temps here reached around 116 degrees this day, but it was still in the mid-80s this early in the morning, right after dawn.

Thanks for watching!

-Tom

I always loved that area, and angle for video.  Looks like the surface of a far-off planet.  Good job.

Good show.
Was that a new 53' Hercules container at 2:04 (dark blue)?

Is there anyplace more desolate looking than the westward view at Park Moabi?  I haven't found one.  Nice video, thanks for posting.

Is this something new and recent or have I missed the boat and all the hype some time ago?

It's fairly new, I saw the first one a few months ago, and I don't see them too often.   They are widely scattered, as opposed to the new Estes and YRC containers that just seemed to magically appear en masse overnight.

I haven't seen any of those trains with that much power before, so must have been some problems en route. Usually 4 units on the trains.

Also interesting noting the Hercules, FFE/KLLM and Estes boxes on there, as that's the first time I've seen those on the Stockton Z. Funny how the new YRC/Hercules blue containers look so much alike, as I hadn't even noticed those until somebody pointed it out to me. Just figured it was some other company with dark blue containers on a train, as there are many other (dark) blue containers out there these days that look alike.

Enjoyed the video.
