Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF/AMTK @ S. Bellingham, Wa; 08/22/2019

On the shores of the Salish Sea, Puget Sound, and Bellingham Bay, BNSF South Bellingham siding, in the Fairhaven neighborhood of Bellingham, Washington is a great place to enjoy nature, and spot trains.

A great location all year round, summer evenings are a personal favorite, with comfortable temperatures and favorable lighting, late into the evening. Such was the case on August 22, 2019.

First spotted that evening was BNSF 6667 with a southbound oil train, pushed by BNSF 769

Right behind BNSF 6667 were a pair of southbound empty coal trains, the first lead by BNSF 8196, the second by BNSF 8321

Recent track work in the area extended the south end of the siding. The new control point is now known as South South Bellingham.

Northbound BNSF 7910 takes the siding in anticipation of the southbound Amtrak Cascades at about 7:30PM, while kayakers get a workout

AMTK 90251 leads the southbound Amtrak Cascades into the station at Bellingham shortly before sunset.

Even with the extension of the south end of South Bellingham siding, BNSF 7910 was too long to clear the mainline. So as soon as AMTK 90251 arrived at Bellingham, BNSF 7910 proceeded north, passing Amtrak on the siding, heading off into the sunset
