Western Railroad Discussion > Yesterday at Tunnel 41 on Donner PassDate: 09/04/19 17:52 Yesterday at Tunnel 41 on Donner Pass Author: broken_link I needed an eastbound, but I got a westbound. (It also had westward facing DPUs at that.) I'm not sure what the symbol of this manifest lead by UP 2608 was, as I couldn't find UP symbols for Donner Pass more recent than last October, but it was a grab bag of everything and decent length with 6 up front and 2 on the back. Perhaps it's the MRORV, if that is still running? The photos and video are of the train emerging from Tunnel 41 as it crests Donner Pass and begins its descent towards Roseville.

Terrific, thanks for sharing! How did you get that video without the shutter sound in the audio? Chris Donhost Vacaville, CA Date: 09/04/19 19:47 Re: Yesterday at Tunnel 41 on Donner Pass Author: broken_link Digger Wrote:

I used a Rode shotgun mike on the camera, which is more directional in nature and less prone to picking up noise to the side and back of the camera. I also move away and behind the camera I'm shooting video with to get shots with the DSLR. Sean Date: 09/04/19 20:43 Re: Yesterday at Tunnel 41 on Donner Pass Author: Copy19 Hey. It's really surprising how slow the train crested the grade, considering the entire train is still climbing upgrade inside the tunnel. You'd think they run a little faster to help cut down on time inside the tunnel, which has been known to kill engines due to excessive exhaust. Fresno and Delano more likely, although some could be heading to Oakland. > It's really surprising how slow the train crested > the grade, considering the entire train is still > climbing upgrade inside the tunnel. I'm sure the crew would love to be going faster, but a lot of time that just isn't possible considering the tonnage of the train. They like to load them up as much as they can. Fun fact: When you get down slow enough in the tunnel, the locomotives exhaust actually passes the train up in the tunnel. Can't remember how slow you have you have to get down to for it to happen. Been too many years. Maybe 10 mph? And the train itself was the MOGRV 02. |
