Lubbock and Western today
Author: jgilmore

Driving through Lubbock today and decided to check out the Lubbock and Western on the west side. Not much happening by their yard off of 37th St., but there were lots of cars stuffed in the yard and two sets of six-axle road power idling in the yard, including the TTU unit. Also, as pictured below, there was a whole train parked out on the branch line to Brownfield and Seagraves just outside of town. Interesting to see a single autorack tucked behind the leased power and ahead of 70 or so tanks and hopper cars. Not really sure of their current ops, so if anyone has anything to add or an explanation for that autorack, that would be welcome. One thing for sure, they are booming with traffic!! Wonder if IPH and Ed wish they had this property back?? Thanks for looking, JG.

The autorack is most likely a buffer car for when the tank cars are loaded.  Interesting that an autorack was used instead of an old boxcar or covered hopper.
