New Caltrans Single Level Equipment on the move
Author: KM-ML4000

The first two Siemens built single level passengers for Caltrans are supposed to move from Siemens in Sacramento sometime today, headed for TTCI in Pueblo. This will be a special move handled by the UP.

Will these cars run as link-barred sets, or as individually coupled cars ?

On Caltrans, they will be run as sets with semi-permanent couplers between the cars, and standard couplers between the locomotive/NPCUs.

So for this move, how do they handle it if they have a semi-permanent coupler on one or both ends ?

The two Caltrans cars being shipped are end cars, so there is only one semipermanent coupler between the two cars. I believe the IDOT's cars will be configured in 1,2,and 3 car configurations.

Eventually there will be a total of 4 Caltrans cars (2- 2 car sets) at TTCI for testing.

Both cars were coupled together just inside the gate last night looking like they were ready to go. The move will be run by the UP as the SFLPU 02. Not called as of yet. Power shows to be UP 8477 & UP 6432.

Thanks for the details - sadly won't be able to go catch it, so hoping we get some pics on TO once it heads out.

Are these the cars ordered by Illinois for Chicago-St,Louis?  to which California hitchhiked a 44 car order?

California was the lead on the cars, Illinois was the lead on the locomotives, so not sure who hitch hiked with who......

I thought California was getting 49 cars. Did they revised their order?

Nope, it’s still 49 cars.
