Free, California question

Freeport, ca located in nor-Cal near Sacramento. I pass through this small town today in notice some abandoned tracks. Anybody know the history of this line?

That’s the old SP Hood branch, that ran down to (wait for it.... ) Hood.
This is the far end of the line the CA RR Museum runs on, although this end of it has been out of service for decades.
I ran on it with my old M-19 motorcar (SN M-51) in the early 80’s and it was barely passable in my speeder- the fills were sliding out from under the track, so it was kinda “lumpy”.

I think it went all the way to Isleton Ca at one time

Thanx guys. We should start a hidden treasures railroad board here. People traveling through out the world in search of long forgotten railroad lines.

Was great, years ago a contractor did some work on the levee at Freeport and had to remove track to do so.
So per the contract they reinstalled the removed track, trackmobile and ballast hoppers were the last things
that ever ran through Freeport!
