Victorville Narrows Bridge
Author: Alco251

A BNSF official told me plans are underway for a replacement span over the Mojave River, railroad east, compass north, of Victorville, CA. This has always been a picturesque spot on the BNSF Cajon Sub. Here's a westbound waiting for a signal, October 8, 2019.

I like the photo, will miss the bridges, they've got a nice period look to them, maybe they'll take a
bit out of that curve as well.

I've been over those bridges countless times, but never stopped to take a pic from trackside that I can recall. But I did take one from my train as we headed east one day in 1990. I always liked that spot. A few seconds of something to look at among all the nothingness.

Te desert is not "nothingnesss" just because it hasn't been paved over yet...

Interesting how the birdges are different in overall height, yet have the same train clearance and capacity

I took this 1/13/96.  There was a park or picnic area on the compass north side of the bridges.  Gerry

Wonderful shot! Think that’s me next to the engineer...

That's purely subjective. Obviously I'm not a fan of the desert.

The curve compass-N of the bridges will remain,
so no use widening the curve south of them.

Anyone know which bridge is older?

I’ve seen them and love that little scenic spot. Now I guess I’d better try and get a photo of them before they are gone.

Nice photo!! Thanks for posting it. If I'm not mistaken your train is moving in a westward direction on the #1 Track approaching MP 34 which is just around the curve ahead past the bridge. I know that location better than I would have liked. Over the years I spent what seemed like an eternity stopped at there at East Victorville waiting for things to clear up downtown.

Just north (railroad east) of those bridges was the site of a bad wreck in 1946.
