NS target for Grand River Bridge restoration is mid-November

Excerpt: "...Norfolk Southern train service between Moberly and Kansas City, Missouri, remains suspended as a result of the Grand River Bridge outage in Brunswick, Missouri, following structural damage from heavy rains and debris. NS Engineering is working around-the-clock on repairs and restoration efforts. There was significant damage to the bridge. The current estimate is mid-November for repairs to be complete and service restored...."

          Is that what they call totally missing ?  Significant damage.

I wonder if the affected bridge girders were recovered down stream and can be re-used?

Seems it would be smarter to put up a truss span this time.

Typically they get bent up too badly and structural strength becomes questionable.

As a side note, the Corp of Engineers has announced a series of public meetings to discuss Lower Grand River watershed concerns.  The NS bridge is only few miles north of the confluence with the Missouri River and a couple of hundred yards south of the US 24 highway bridge where the river gauge is located.  The entire watershed extends back into Iowa. The announcements indicated woody debris buildup was one of the concerns. BTW, the river gauge is currently out of service.

Would extend the time to restore the crossing since a truss bridge would have to be designed, fabricated and erected.
