Is this a new WP&Y loco

Is this one of the pair being rebuilt for the White Pass by by NRE?

From a NRE Youtube clip released earlier this week

Thought you'd be the one to know?

There is something weird going on with this image.  Look at the shelves on both sides, they are exact mirrors of each other.  The shadows and the cab interior are too symmetrical.  The locomotive also looks like it could be a computer rendering instead of a real locomotive.

The whole image is a mirror image, including the loco.

It does look like NRE played funny buggers with this shot

Working on the premise that it would be cheaper to rebuild a lightweight export loco in preference to a heavier domestic (possibly requiring a new lightweight frame), the only suitable pair of export locos in stock, could possibly be NREX 1109 and 1110? I know the problems Casagrande in Santiago experienced reducing the weight of SD40's down to around 135 tons. 1109/1110 weigh 132 (metric) tonnes (145.5 short tons). It will be easier to carve around 20 short tons out of one of these. Especially on 3' gauge bogies with GE 764 traction motors.  Will only require a minuscule fuel tank, so new tank with reduced fuel load. The hood roof in this pair is an oversized muffler to meet the ridiculous NSW noise abatement laws, this can be removed.

These were spec builds at the end of a run of 8 for Qube Australia in 1912

Compare the height with a domestic switcher

Thanks for the background on the NRE Qube units. Always wondered about that!

This definitely isn't one of the WP&Y units. While I don't know if they'll have the same cabs or not, I'm fairly certain they won't have a horn embedded in the front pilot :)
