There was a little "oops" today. I hope your day is better than these guys are experiencing.
BB Date: 11/06/19 14:59 Re: OT - Heavy Equipment Mechanics Wanted Author: PHall That's got to be an "interesting" conversation!
Date: 11/06/19 15:41 Re: OT - Heavy Equipment Mechanics Wanted Author: jst3751 It is an older unit, so either something just wore out or maintenance missed something.
Date: 11/06/19 15:43 Re: OT - Heavy Equipment Mechanics Wanted Author: seod They're still building shopping centers?. I thought most were being abandoned. I know a couple in my neck of the woods that have been re-purposed to other things.
It will take a bit to fix that crawler it is a pretty major break down. Cool and fun picture thanks. Scott O'Dell Date: 11/06/19 16:04 Re: OT - Heavy Equipment Mechanics Wanted Author: gp60 OK Who fogot to tighten the spindle nut ?

Effective minimum wage here is $14.00/hr and job openings galore. BB Date: 11/06/19 16:34 Re: OT - Heavy Equipment Mechanics Wanted Author: dan if they have AAA RV plus they are covered

Larry Date: 11/06/19 17:25 Re: OT - Heavy Equipment Mechanics Wanted Author: 2ebright OK, I give up! Where did this occur?
Dick Date: 11/06/19 17:25 Re: OT - Heavy Equipment Mechanics Wanted Author: 2720 WOW! Major failure there! Looks like the spindle supporting that wheel
assembly has given up the ghost! I've worked on older Terex scrapers and found them to be a major pain in the A**! We had a fleet of 'em and at that time they were all junk! Pick it up and send it to the junk pile!! Mike Date: 11/06/19 17:34 Re: OT - Heavy Equipment Mechanics Wanted Author: funnelfan When the Plantary Gears become unaligned!!

Yep, "We've seen it all" Date: 11/07/19 06:43 Re: OT - Heavy Equipment Mechanics Wanted Author: WW If you spend much time around heavy equipment (I have, railroads included), stuff breaks. Cat, Terex, Komatsu, Case, Deere, etc., etc., they all break as they age. That's a fairly old Terex there (descendent of GM's Euclid Division). I knew excavators who swore by their Euclid/Terex equipment, one guy ran nothing but Euclid and Terex equipment, and every big truck he had sported a Detroit Diesel. You only had to listen to know where he was--you could hear those "screamin'" two-cycle Jimmies for miles. Of course, the 2-cycle Detroit Diesel was a cousin to the two-cycle EMD 567, 645, and 710 locomotive prime movers that so many railfans love. The old (pretty much true) adage about the truck and heavy equipment Detroits was that they only should be run at two speeds--wide open or off. The didn't like to idle and, if idled for any long periods, they would develop oil seal leaks--thus, their nickname "Drip-troit." Just like their locomotive cousins, though, they were tough, powerful engines that were fairly easily rebuildable.
If I have to venture a guess, those "NoDak" (local slang for North Dakotan) folks will have that scraper put back together and running again pretty quick. "Just another day at the office," as they say. By the way, Terex still exists, but has no association with GM (hasn't for years) and its newer equipment has no mechanical relation to the "vintage" Terex equipment like this old scraper--it probably dating from the 1970's-80's. |
