Another Gold Spike Centennial!
Author: 2720

Today, 100 years ago, November 15, 1919, John D. Spreckels drove the Golden Spike
on his railroad, the San Diego & Arizona Railway!

"A Day of Great Jollification" he proclaimed! Thirteen years in the making,
the original plan had been to complete the SD&A before the Panama Canal
was finished and San Diego, CA. would be the first US port of call on the West
Coast! Thus providing potential traffic to the SD&A!

Tomorrow, November 16, 2019, the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum Association
will be having a recreation of the driving of the gold spike at their facility in Campo, CA.

Daylong festivities will be on hand throughout the day with the recreation taking place
near the Display Building at 1:00 pm!

Tickets are still available through their website at psrm.org.

I'm surprised no one from the museum has posted that information here on Trainorders.com!

Mike
