Unit had PTC installed a couple of years ago. Date: 11/18/19 08:13 Re: UP 1144, GP60E, at Denver Author: arizonaBNSF Evan_Werkema Wrote:

The 'E' also indicates that the control stand was adjusted and rear ditch lights were added, making the unit easier to operate long hood forward. Some of the UP SD60s received this upgrade too. Cool that two railroads have locomotives called SD60Es, but they are quite different on each railroad. Date: 11/18/19 08:15 Re: UP 1144, GP60E, at Denver Author: King_Coal Good looking locomotives. Thanks for posting.
Date: 11/18/19 08:36 Re: UP 1144, GP60E, at Denver Author: ble692 The GP60 units that became GP62 units and the SD60 units that became SD62 units are the ones that had the control stand moved (along with some other work). This was done to make the units easier to use during long hood forward operation. This program occured from 2013 to 2016. In the end, 16 GP60 were converted to GP62, and 31 SD60 were converted to SD62. The units were not necessarily overhauled at the time of the long hood forward modifications, and there are no plans for any more of these modifications to take place.
The modernization program that is now ongoing to the GP60/GP62 and SD60/SD62 fleets includes the installation of an EM2000 computer (as found in the EMD 70 series locomotives), as well as conversion from mechanical fuel injection to electronic fuel injection. In additional the units are receiving a complete overhaul, but still retaining the same prime mover and horsepower rating. The units are having an "E" added to their existing model when they go through this modernization program. In the end we should have a fleet of GP60E, GP62E, SD60E, and SD62E. As for UP 1144, it was originally built as SP 9728, a speed lettered GP60. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/18/19 08:37 by ble692. It shows that EMD was the best 30 years ago when those units were built. Date: 11/18/19 14:35 Re: UP 1144, GP60E, at Denver Author: Locotrol2 Still shows that EMD’s are still reliable......

UP 1005 is still rolling around NorCal pretty much as built and painted as SSW 9652 back in 1989 Date: 11/18/19 18:53 Re: UP 1144, GP60E, at Denver Author: highgreengraphics Nice shot of nice local power! === === = === JLH
