MRL changes
Author: fbe

SRY president Derek Ollmann is the new president of MRL. Stacey Posey with the CSXT history has left for personal reasons.

Both power switches at Avon have been removed and a handthrow switch will be installed for parking work trains and b/o cars. The new long Bradley siding west of Avon will be placed in service next week or so. It was built using fill from material from the Mullan tunnel shortening project. The long Phosphate storage track has been rebuilt and upgraded with CTC control switches and is now a long siding.

Work to make Dixon a long CTC siding continues.

Didn't think there was enough enough traffic on the 10th sub for this project to be feasible.  Is Dixon the only big siding on the 10th?   How many days per week do the gas trains run the 4th sub to switch St. Regis?  Haven't been up there in about 5 years but I'm always interested in MRL operations.

The Dixon siding was extended westerly to make it long enough for long mty trains. There may be 3-5 eastbound mty coal and mty grain trains daily which have a priority on the MRL 10th sub.

I am kind of behind on the operations of the 2 gas locals these days.

I'd bet good money there are a lot of MRL operating people very happy to see Posey leave, for whatever reason.

What did Posey do, good or bad?
Or do you not have any actual information about the man's actions?

Is the siding at Phosphate lengthened such that a train waiting on the siding for a meet will not block the road crossing found at the freeway exit?  In other words, can an entire train be held either fully west or fully east of the road?

Westbound trains can stop short of the crossing and eastbound trains will clear.

I was fortunate to have worked with Stacey at the CSX, and he is one of the best railroaders and persons I ever met.
So a year ago I was happy to learn he was MRL President, and now disappointed  to read he has left.

I agree, he was a good railroader.  He did hold people accountable that were not good at their job, so that always seemed to rub the lazy the wrong way.

My comment came via a very good friend whom I used to work with who has worked for the MRL for years. He is a down to earth, good railroader. He has mentioned more than one time how the culture at MRL changed for the worse when "the CSX took over," and how disgruntled employees had become. Obviously, not everyone will agree to his opinion, but I have no reason to question it.

An anonymous poster with an opinion from as anonymous source.  Not worth much.

I worked with him several years ago when he was in Calumet City and also had a good opinion of him. He used to work long hours from what I recall. Hope he is well.
