Need help regarding Arizona Eastern operations
Author: Super_C

Can anyone in TO world provide me with radio frequencies and basic operation schedule between Globe and the former SP at Bowie and Lordsburg?  Any help would be much appreciated.

Monday and Thursday afternoons/evenings for a 'road train' from Bixby to Bowie. Goes through Globe about 5pm (street running around sunset). Returns the day after, but timing varies at the western end on the return, so can be seen through e.g. Safford in the early/mid/late afternoon (or sometimes not!).

The eastbound trains that left Globe on Monday/Thursday will get to Lordsburg between about 0900 and 1030 (Tuesday/Friday), then will leave back west (after switching) at approx. 11am-1pm. This seems very reliable.

As I say, the return timings to Globe (westbound trains between Bowie and the Safford/Globe area) can vary quite a bit, but the rest (eastbound trains and the Lordsburg timings) seem really quite reliable/consistent.

So are you saying that the Globe originated trains run through to Lordsburg on the UP?

Correct. Has been this way since 2016 at least. Trackage rights for the AZER over UP.

That's interesting, the interchange at Bowie must have necessiated a local that the UP didn't want to run.

The trackage rights date back to UP leasing the Clifton line to Iowa Pacific Holdings.  I shot the trackage rights running on the Sunset under both G&W and IPH.  Here is a link to a shot of G&W.  I don't have access to my IPH shot at the moment, but it was 5 B39-8s and taken in 2010.

Thanks for the nice ops summary, exhaustedED!

No problem, thank you for the additional info. That photo of yours on railpics I've seen before, it was part of my inspiration for going to that part of the world to see them in the first place! Nice shot!
Here are a few links to some of mine from last year and this year. Not all are Arizona Eastern but quite a few are...

When we were living in neighboring Pinal County several years ago it was mostly five days a week on the times described above. I am sorry to hear of the reduction to biweekly. As a side note Asarco at Hayden is still on strike, so as a result Copper Basin is shutdown. The strike is now over six weeks old.Bill Webb

You did quite well, Paul!  Fine series of photos.  Sorry it took a bit to take a view of them.  I need to scan a few of these slides I've taken when visiting Eastleigh to post over on the European board.  It is on the "to do" list, trust me.  My next 3 trips are LHR, so may be back out fanning over there soon dependent on the weather.

That sounds good Mike.

I'm over in bandit country... Ludlow, near the Welsh border. I have had some good trips to Eastleigh, would be good to see your scans when you get round to doing them. If you need any info etc when you next come across the pond just let me know!
