Special report about the SP 1006 at OERM
Author: TomPlatten

This is the photograph taken by one of our employees of the available people who contributed at one time or another to the restoration of the SP 1006 at OERM, Perris, CA. Some of these folks are 16 years older than when we started!

You're very fortunate to have John Salvini (second from right) on your mechanical crew. If John can't fix a problem with a diesel-electric locomotive, it's beyond help.

Major congrats to one and all for an exceptional job!  This may be the finest restoration that has taken place at OERM.

It was definitely the most "wide ranging" restoration. The SF 108 was a major restoration because of it's size but virtually every part on the SP 1006 was refurbished or replaced! When we started back in 2003, no one thought it would take so long until we examined the overall condition of the locomotive! The SP 3100 was the relatively easy due to the fact that the body was in pretty good shape. It was basically repainted. Up 942 needed estensive body preparation due to many years of use and "being rode hard and put away wet". It also needed major mechanical work including a refurbished generator and a new power assembly in one of the prime movers. SF 108 needed major body work and mechanical work including a new turbocharger. Each locomotive presented different challenges  to overcome. All in all, I think the "boys" did just fine! As many of use are in our seventies, I think we will leave behind a good legacy!
