Finally saw the Army Locomotive on the move! (Hawthorne Nevada)
Author: JohnM

Last night driving south on US 95 (for RayH) into Hawthorne I came upon all kinds of flashing red and blue lights near the main entrance to the Army base in Hawthorne. The traffic lights were red, there were two local Sheriffs units parked across the highway on each side in front of the down and illuminated crossing gates. And out of the East out pops the GP-9(?) crossing the highway headed into the barn.   Unfortunately darkness had fallen and I was unable to snap a photo, but it was a treat, because as many times as I've been throug( here at all hours of the day, I've only seen it parked outside the engine house.  As soon as the gates went up, local law enforcement cleared the crossing and went opposite directions.

Someday, I would like to see a train running through Schurz, the rails do look used.   Anyone know how often the line feeding the base sees a train?

I finally saw USA Army Units move from the UP 4014 train when we left Yermo.

Chris that's awesome.  I like how the two units are unique

When did Interstate 95 (I-95) get moved to Nevada! LOL

I guess they still run their open house which offers rides behind those same diesels and as to Schurz,
as needed, as far as I know there's no longer a regular schedule South of Wabuska.

Out

glad you got a chuckle, yes.  I accidentally referenced  the beautiful and scenic US 95 as I-95.  I need to apologize to US 95 for that significant slight!

Thank you, maybe one of these days I'll get lucky and see something trundling down the line.

They run as needed out to Thorne. No set schedule at all.

On March 29, 2013 I was passing though Hawthorne on US 95 and figured I'd drive over to Thorne and see what might be around. Well luck was on my side and just as I pulled up to the crossing a set of light power was arriving. As soon as the crew parked their power, a van from the hotel in Hawthorne arrived and wisked them away for their rest. In the morning I'm sure they would be on an outbond train, but I was long gone by then.
