Bad bad baaaadddd Luck in Eastern Oregon.

Talk about bad luck!!!! Try to pass a semi, but get snagged by the trailer as it makes a turn. Dragged onto the tracks and dropped only to be clobbered by a UP train seconds later. Luckily vehicle occupants bailed in time!

Bad luck? No, bad stupidity!

This move was passing a truck in an intersection!!!!  I'll guarantee there were no dashed yellow lines before the intersection.

There may have been, I've driven through places in Oregon where side road stop signs turn green and drivers will cross directly in front of you. Must be something in the air.

Yup another stupid driver that didnt see or bother to think that the turn signal was on making a pass illegal to do. Have seen many do that not just here in Oregon.  In fact those from south of us will pass forcing on coming cars off the road. CA drivers are some of the most forceful I have ever been around think the own the road.

Two teenage boys in a Ford F-250? Probably local.

And the highway at that intersection is painted as a passing zone, at least according to the satellite view on google. No solid lines in sight!

Years ago I was in traffic school in Los Angeles and someone in the class asked if you could pass in an intersection.  The teacher ( retired LAPD officer) said yes.

Well, the driver was 118 years old! (Dangers of not following "best practices" in writing out dates).

You haven't driven in Bent. Don't know what a red light means. Not one not two but a line of red light runners. Oh well so much for being a superior Oregonian.

Maybe I missed it. Has it been established that the turn signal was on?

I think you guys are unfairly judging the driver of the pickup. I doubt he would have attempted to pass if the turn signal of the semi had been working. The vehicles were northbound at this intersection and turning left. I kinda wonder about where the head of the semi driver was not to notice someone ran into the side of his trailer. But if he was trying to beat the oncoming train across the crossing, he may not have noticed.

You have got to be kidding me. You come on here and make an attempt to pass judgement upon the truck driver with "maybe his turn signal was not working" and "where the head of the semit driver was not to notice someone ran into the side of his trailer" when neither of those suppositions have as of yet to be mentioned or any indication of them as of yet.

Then you have the gall to say "I doubt he would have attempted to pass if the turn signal..."

Who the heck do you think you are?

Peaple attempt to pass trucks ALL THE TIME when the turn signal is on. I myself have been in an accident when my right turn signal was on and a car tried to pass me on the right and ended up underneith my trailer.

PLUS, the PRIMARY responsiblity of a person attempting to pass another on a 2 lane highway where it is permitted is that the passing vehicle MUST INSURE it is safe to do so. How many thousands of YouTube videos are out there showing a**hole drivers driving too fast and wanting to pass others and creating accidents?

You start by saying "I think you guys are unfailrly judging..." What the H do you think you are doing?

It is “as an engineer” Ted Curphey we’re talking about here...he’s not the brightest of the bunch when it comes to looking at facts, and also when it comes to an opinion besides his.

CA drivers may be forcefull, but some of the driving I've seen in Oregon makes me wonder how far up the driver's heads are stuck. Point and shoot driving only works on video games. I'm so glad you are a righteously perfect driver.

There's a video that I saw a few days ago where a car was sitting in traffic and a truck going in the opposite direction made a tight turn into a side street.  As he made the turn, the rear of his truck swung into the oncoming traffic and caught the car that was just sitting in traffic.  He snagged the car and drug it around the corner as the truck continued.  It didn't show how far the car was dragged.

From the article, we know some of the facts but not the whole story.  Maybe the pick-up truck driver drove too close or maybe the rear of the trailer truck swung really wide.

As the song goes, "If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck a all."

John.
