Went out again on January 3 for another El Segundo rendez-vous. The previous day’s LOW20 had left a long train at Wise Transfer so I had a good feeling that they’d be heading down early in the morning to retrieve it. I set up in Hawthorne east of the abandoned mall for them. As it turned out they came a bit later than I hoped for nose light on the eastbound and then had to hold at Wise while the BNSF fouled the diamond gaining clearance, but still got my shots. Chased them to Cypave for the SpaceX shot and beat them by like five seconds.

Yes the graffiti is terrible!

First three images are the westbound heading towards Chevron.

Nice shots of the urban/industrial job.  That has to be a tough job to work and looks sketchy to go out and photograph.

Who were all those ppl giving me a hard time about 2 units on the el segundo jub.  Train looks no different than the one with 4 units a few days earlier.
Im sue someone will tell me im all wrong.

You're assuming the amount of cars the train has on the end of the line is the same as the amount of cars it leaves 4th Street with. As I said, that four unit train had 70 cars on the hook (it may have left with less, but that was the original plan). This day's train had far less.

People comment on how "overpowered" the southbound Guadalupe Hauler looks before they make their Oxnard pick up too.

Any chance of a photo of Wise transfer -- PE/ATSF diamond?

The last time I was there on a PE fantrip, Wise Transfer tower was in the middle of nowhere. Only a sand and gravel operation on the north side served by the PE.

Looks like the line has all the typical southern California ghetto appearance today.

Ain't good no more.

Im sorry, I hate trains with "4 engines and 4 car" so to speak.  OK  I'll shut up about it.  I've just seen local crews (and known local crews) who will just take whatever power is convenient.  They would joke about it with me.  "Oh, we dont care"

As Charles knows. I grew up with the Erie Lackawanna. We had grades.  but the only time we had a high amount of HP on a train, was when we needed to move power.   CS9 would leave croxton...going up Great Notch hill...with4000 tons and 2 GP-35's for power.   The 1st northern local would sometimes come out of the yard with 3000 tons, and a single SW-9 for power.   They would need a pusher to get them moving up the grade out of the bergen tunnel, leaving the yard....

I'll try to stop complaining...but IDK....

Beth - photos are all taken after they serviced Grain Craft which took a long cut of loaded BNSF grain hoppers.

Great photos, I really like the one with the SpaceX rocket.
