Freight car ID please
Author: 55002

Hi - on my recent railfan trip, I was up the hill adjacent to Barstow Yard. I'm puzzled as to what these 5 tank cars and the good looking caboose are used for. Many thanks, Chris UK.

Not positive but the first three cars look like BNSF wildfire fighting tank cars used in Washington, Idaho & Montana.
I would assume the other two are for extra water or perhaps foam capacity.

You can see a version of what I'm talking about at this link https://www.flickr.com/photos/planephotoman/8887269551

Wow!  A RED caboose fully painted BNSF.  Great catch.  Agree with the fire fighting response.

Fire train.  The cars sat at Victorville for many weeks then disappeared.  I wondered where they went.

Of course it's red, it's a FIRE train waycar.
