Flagstaff Cam Mega Grain Empty
Author: jayman

On the Flagstaff cam yesterday morning about 2AM a EB 3x3x1 226 car grain empty went by with a ATSF Heritage hopper and an NP one, is BNSF now doubling grain empty on the transcon now, anyone know what the symbol is, is it going to run in one piece instead of taking it apart? (It's on the Virtual Railfan Gallery FB page.)

Was told they have been combining those in the Pasco WA yard last year nothing really new about it. Was also told it plugs the leads into and out of the yard there and takes about five hours.

UP does the same with empty grain trains over Donner Pass too. I can't imagine how big a PITA it would be when it breaks a knuckle and the conductor has walk back 200 cars in the snow.

Wonder how that will impact fluidity on a line where a lot of freight goes 60-70mph where possible.

Symbol was X-FRSCRK9-15K.

222 cars, 12909 feet.

Thanks, I wondered if they ran it like that the whole way instead of taking it apart.

News to me. With hpt restrictions it was probably running online 2x1x1, then 1x1x1 on the Gallup.
