Union Pacific 3096 on Minturn Local
Author: SP8595

The highest numbered Tier IV EMD currently on the UP roster, the Union Pacific 3096 was leading the Minturn Local yesterday. This local runs East out of Grand Jct. to the siding at Lacy on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and to Gypsum on the old Tenn. Pass line on Monday and Wednesday.
The 3096 had been used on the Dirt train that runs back and forth from Brendel to Emkay out near Moab, Utah for the last 2 months. With it's FRA inspection due in a few days, it was brought to Grand Jct. where the local snagged it for use yesterday before the engine heads off to Denver and then onto N. Platte.

1) After finishing switching the industries located at Lacy, seen in the background, the 3096 heads Westbound to the next stop at Grand Valley siding.

2) 3096 is heading back down the Parachute Industrial Lead after having switched the Solvay Chemical plant. This lead takes off from the mainline at the East end of Grand Valley siding and the West end of BNSF's yard, located in Parachute.

3) With all the work completed for the day, the local is now heading back to Grand Jct. and was taken here East of De Beque.

Killer stuff, that Solvay Lead looks like a pretty decent curve from the freeway.

Nice set of photos!  And clean power, too!  That's not easily done when shooting UP engines.

That 3rd shot is absolutely stunning!

Always cool to see Progress Rail and GE Tier 4 power back-to-back as well!

A T4 from both builders. Wouldn't it be great if they was doing comparison test to decide a future big order.

Thanks for sharing the good photos and providing a description of the local operations with location names.  Always helpful to have locations notes for those unfamiliar with the area.
