This is news from the PGE web pages.

Get your PGEX coal train photos while you can.

And hope that your lights dont start dimming one day.

Your lights will dim slowly and by mandate so all the little forest creatures can romp through the trees happily. Except when the forest fire comes every year and fries their little furry behinds all over California I would imagine.

My electricity mostly comes from dams. This Boardman coal power is mostly for Portlanders and is being replaced by massive wind farms.

fbe, in add to rail pics, get your landscape pictures of mountain and forest locations before they are raped by hundreds if not thousands of bird-killing windmills on every horizon. I'm glad to have been able in my much younger years to visit and hike many mountain areas in the southwest to view the wonder of nature from mountain tops with nary a sign of man. So in the name of mitigating man-made climate change (very questionable in my mind) they are doing more to despoil nature's wonders than the energy generation methods they are replacing.

What, when the fossil fuels run out you mean, which by definition they will...?

Just because you can't see the crap that burning fossil fuels produces, doesn't mean the crap isn't there. The area around Chernobyl looks idyllic, but the levels of radiation will have you growing extra limbs if they don't kill you first...

How many unit coal trains does Boardman get in a month?  And, how much coal is on the ground?

When the Portland (PA) coal plant went dark, coal trains ended months before the lights went out at the plant.

The steamers sure don't like the loss of coal fired plants.

A recent story, advised that the large blades of the windmills can not be recycled, just go to land fills. !

Then where do all the spent batteries go that will power trucks - buses even trains. !

Just more trash on the earth.

Batteries get recycled. Turbine blades will in due course.

Well lets see now, check the energy grid that BPA has and see how that works out all too often due to two things, one wind and two darkness. Now about solar..................in the EU several countries shut down everything but solar and wind, yup nothing else, guess what,,,,,,,,,they had to bring there coal fired back on line during the night and any bad weather.  No they could have converted it to natural gas like the two up river from it on the WA side.  Also when good old Insley and Brown get going and remove the Snake River Dams lets see how that turns out.

Really?  What do you do with fiberglass or carbon fiber? Bury it?  Oh and battries? Making them is bad news alone due to what and how they are made ground up to use. Need to do some research on those items they are far from green and how exactly are they charged? Power comes from somewhere.

When I chased the BM&LP this August just before the line shut down the power plant in Page ran for several months from the stockpile at the plant. That was the idea of my OP, does anyone here on TO have an idea when the last PGEX train will load out of the PRB? Will it be late summer or in the fall? Thanks.

Once people found fire for heat, light and cooking there has been a need for a way to consume something to make heat and later power. Unless the population has access to a large source of geothermal power nothing comes for free. Use what is a available wisely.

Thanks, fbe.

So, late summer could be the last regular train to the plant?

Turbine blades can be ground up and made into wallboard, it is stronger than gypsum, and can be used as an additive to gypsum. So far the best use I have heard, better than burying them in landfills! === === = === JLH

People are working on ways to recycle them. If you use renewables to charge the batteries then everything's ok isn't it? Try some research yourself!

When the Wind doesn't blow the Electricity don't flow it's called unreliable power.
