Friday's Rumblings
Author: rrartist

Almost feels like Spring in the upper Midwest as the temps were in the 40s and we had clear blue skies, in short, time for a little road trip. A good friend heard through the grapevine that there was a loaded UP Coke train in Roseport MN lead by a CSXT SD40-2, say no more! We headed for the Twin Cities via Farmington (MN) and found the UP 8518 and the M ITDM (Itasca -Des Moines) and the M SSNP (St Paul - North Platte) with the UP 1983 holding north of Farmington. Not a bad start, but we had bigger fish to fry! The sun was starting to swing around by the time the train made it to East Minneapolis, but the CSXT 8350 sure looked and sounded fine!

While we were waiting for the Coke loads I received information that CP 471 was coming across Wisconsin with the CP 7028 leading, soooo, do a quick run past the CP Diesel house and find a few more SD40-2s sunning themselves and head south. We heard CP 474 give their totals as they departed the Cities with a whooping 199 cars, 21000 + tons and 11000+ feet we knew we would catch this back near home and we did. CP 8074 - 4427 - 5035 power the train south of La Crescent MN. Now we had a bigger fish to fry! The CP 7028.

CP 471 had a few chores to do in the La Crosse WI yard which gave the moon time to rise and the sun to get better for the CP 7028. These motors sure look nice when they are fresh! CP 689, CSXT 3347 followed CP 471 westward and the BNSF 9089, CP 383 ended the parade on a outstanding Friday!

We don’t see hardly any of those 40-2’s down C&M sub way. That WP unit has made it down here though. Great chase shots!
