Edit: I posted this as another example on the dangers of trespassing. I understand the empathy for human life that some of you have, and I respect that. But the facts are she made a bad decision by breaking the law and paid for it with her life. Stay safe everyone.

I just wonder, was the train northbound, having just crossed the border, or southbound, heading for Mexico? It seems that in Mexico, as well as many other countries, it is customary to ride on the roofs of freight cars. The railroads apparently look the other way, although it looks like a particularly dangerous practice. If they were from Mexico, it just goes to prove how desperate people are to escape the conditions where they are coming from.

About the only cars with ladders that reach the roof these days are covered hoppers.
It's been over 50 years since roofwalks were banned.

They ride between cars, also under the area at each end of hopper cars ever where they can somewhat hide from sight.
