Patched Southern Pacific locomotives together in service
Author: Digger

As mentioned in an earlier thread, there are two patched Southern Pacific locomotives in DPU service on the end of the Z-train heading for Tacoma. I was able to capture these locomotives just north of Sacramento. From Stockton they came up the Fresno Sub. I was a little late catching up with them from home, so I shot ahead to Roseville to catch them at the yard office for their crew change. When I was parked waiting I checked the Calrailfan Facebook page and learned they dodged Roseville by cutting over to the Sacramento Sub at Haggin. Snap! So, my son and I shot off down PFE road with the hopes of catching up to them before Marysville. After all that chasing, luck was finally on our side! When we crossed the tracks on Riego Road (West Baseline), Paul noticed headlights just south of our position. We pulled off and captured them there. What a fun thing to do with my son, get out of the house, and practice some social distancing, lol.

Enjoy the video complete with searchlight signals and good oldfashioned mechanical grade crossing bells. Long live the great Espee!

There's a third patched locomotive in the West Colton post today, that's three running not that far apart all on the same day.

The repair parts shipment from Amazon must have made it to the shop.

Would have been better if the SP locomotives were in the lead, but it is what it is.

Appropriate comment when the truck drove up.  Nice to see a high speed train on the former WP, with an unbelievable pair on the rear.  Thanks for posting.  BSB

Thanks the progress update on the consist, Arlen. My best to Doyle. I'm still bummed that the winter storm last year shut down I-5 and cut us off from attending HE. Next time we will plan to fly!

For an Espee fan:
"Next time, take the train."

Hahaha - yes, there is that. Then when I take into consideration my wife and kids, time, school schedules, and expense, there is no comparison to Southwest Airlines. If we were talking about Espee of the 1940's vs Amtrak, that might be a different story...
