Western Railroad Discussion > Wreck!!!Date: 04/20/20 11:39 Wreck!!! Author: rrartist Just heard a BNSF westbound hit a boulder north of Dubuque. Both mains are blocked. Leader is a Tier 4 Gevo, second motor is a FXE 70 ace on its side with cars derailed.

MILW86A Date: 04/20/20 12:39 Re: Wreck!!! Author: robj North of Glen Haven there is road right above the tracks with Rock formations above and I remember correctly there were slide fences, wondered if they were still active.

Larry Date: 04/20/20 13:07 Re: Wreck!!! Author: texchief1 Looks like a mess!
Jim. what subdivision is this and where does go to/from? Thanks. Randy Lundgren Date: 04/20/20 13:42 Re: Wreck!!! Author: rrartist Aurora sub between La Crosse Wi and Savanna Illinois, north of East Dubuque.

KC Date: 04/20/20 15:29 Re: Wreck!!! Author: MNNRfan That is a mess. I hope the spokeswoman was right and those autoracks were empty.
This is the second time in 6 months BNSF put one in the drink in this area. They had one close to Glen Haven, farther north than today's wreck, where an engine and some stacks got wet (no injuries in that one either!) Date: 04/20/20 16:34 Re: Wreck!!! Author: up833 Interesting that that the lead loco made it down the track quite aways. Looks like the front truck might be off the rail. Rock is mostly on the outer main and the train was on the inner main. sideswipe maybe? Empty racks might have piled up due to run-in?

Author: rrman6 Nasty, but glad no severe injuries. Just looks like that rock was aiming for a drink, which I'm sure it will get soon.
Date: 04/21/20 07:31 Re: Wreck!!! Author: WW Thankful that there were no injuries. As an aside, I know of at least one railroad that, back in the day, would fire any employee that would refer to any mishap like this as a "wreck." Any such incident, no matter how minor or major, was a "derailment."

Places I've worked, trains were in the ditch (except IHB, where they were in the mud) unless there was a collision with a train, in which case they were into each other. The hook was also the wrecking outfit and the guy in charge of it was the wreckmaster. TAW Date: 04/21/20 15:31 Re: Wreck!!! Author: Spoony81 Date: 04/21/20 17:53 Re: Wreck!!!
