American Falls Idaho Visit
Author: trainman7774

Hello All,

Continuing with photos from my trip out west in 2018.

On the morning of September 18, 2018 I drove from Salt Lake City Utah to American Falls Idaho. The Union Pacific Pocatello Line crosses the Snake River and passes the American Falls Dam.
During the 4 hours or so I was there I saw 4 trains. Three were east bounds and the other was appeared to be a westbound local. Here are the photos from my visit.

1. Union Pacific 2637, 5572 and 4939 lead an eastbound manifest on the UP Pocatello Sub at American Falls Idaho. The American Falls Dam is seen in the background.

2. Union Pacific 2637, 5572 and 4939 continue eastbound across the Snake River on the UP Pocatello Sub at American Falls Idaho

3. Union Pacific 7752, 8697, 7424 and 8816 lead an eastbound manifest toward the Snake River Bridge on the Union Pacific Pocatello Sub at American Falls Idaho

I hope everyone enjoys the photos.

Where's the water?  Drought?  Photos are a 9 but need water to make a 10,  As good  or better than other photos taken here .  To bad they weren't releasing water,  it's a raw hard land out there made for photographers and cattle only.

Nice pics.  I've only seen the dam/bridge a few times, but it was always looked like an interesting photo study in passing.

Last summer I was driving I-84 through the area, and chose to follow the rail line east from Bliss toward Minidoka.

About 25 miles shy of Minedoka the map showed good pacing options to the east.  So I pulled over and did some work for a while, and an eastbound train came along.  I paced it most of the way to Minidoka, then cut south to Burley to pick up 84 again.

I plan to spend more time in this area on future I-84 drives.

Only in big snow accumulation winters in Wyoming's Teton mountains will you see more water than what's just ran through the power generators.  Sadly, those winters don't happen much any more.
