Western Railroad Discussion > A few Central Valley industrial locomotivesDate: 05/26/20 00:51 A few Central Valley industrial locomotives Author: wpamtk Here's a few photos of locomotives in industrial service that have nothing in common except that they're all in the Central Valley of California and I happen to have digital photos of them (I mostly shoot film). Some are no longer extant or still at the locations depicted, so I'm showing them just for the interesting variety. There are defintely many more industrial units in the Valley besides those shown here.
1. James Railcar 45-tonner at Anita (north of Chico) 9/04. Paint reminiscent of Monon passenger scheme. 2. Holly Sugar ex-SP S-6 at Hamilton City 9/04. Plant closed, engine derelict. Now long gone. 3. Gilbert Feeds Geep at Keyes (on UP south of Modesto) 12/06. Apparently still there, although they now have a leased SW1500. more... Date: 05/26/20 00:59 Re: A few Central Valley industrial locomotives Author: wpamtk 4. Feed mill at Swanson (south of Empire on BNSF) had this ex-Santa Fe Geep in 9/08. They previously had a nice high-nose ex-BN Geep, but wrecked it.
5. By 9/16, they had replaced it with this genset. 6. Foster Farms had this leased ex-DM&IR (I think) SD38 at Traver (on UP south of Fresno) in 4/11. This was formerly Zacky Farms, who had a red & white CF7. more... Date: 05/26/20 01:13 Re: A few Central Valley industrial locomotives Author: wpamtk 7. At KIngs Park (south of Hanford on BNSF), this feed mill had an ex- Illinois Central "SD20" rebuild in 9/16.
8. The adjacent Pittman Family Farms facility had this pair of ex-SP SD40T-2s. 9. At Western Milling in Famoso (UP north of Bakersfield) was this ex-Reserve Mining SD18 (complete with Gyralite) in 11/11. Gone now, unfortunately. Please see my post on this thread at 23:33 on 5/18 for some J. D. Heiskel units in the vicinity. Last time I saw the 2260 about a year ago, it was among the units at the Heiskell facility in Guernsey, CA along with deturboed GP20 #2001 and high hood SD9 #50. > 6. Still there, though they have also had a Railpower genset for some time (ex-RPRX 5406, sister to the unit at Swanson). https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,4446413,4446866#4446866 > 7. Like the SD18 at Famoso, this unit was replaced by a Knoxville Locomotive Works endcab in 2017: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,4582941,4582958#4582958 Date: 05/26/20 06:08 Re: A few Central Valley industrial locomotives Author: atsf121 Fun series!
