Low Light from the Master
Author: santafe199

Whenever the Master Artist wants to, He can blow away his mere mortal, flesh & bones equipped competition right off the stage. The trick is to have a camera ready…*

1. With the assistance of the shiny top of my Nissan Sentra we’re looking SW across the UP (nee Missouri Pacific) Kansas City ~ Omaha main line at the 100th St crossing near Huron, KS. The Master Artist is in divinely rare form on this December 29, 2011.

*…and to show some gratitude.

A very nice picture but you shot it too soon or too late. There's no train. Treat it as a leaning experience! ;)

(chuckling) Now that you mention it, it was BOTH! :^) The classic lesson here is: If they won't send you a train, shoot a depot. Or a signal. Or a crossbuck. Something! Anything, so your efforts aren't completely wasted.

Maybe you'll be fortunate enough to get a sunset...

;^)

Between Kansas City and the crew change terminal of Marysville, KS this line normally carries the bulk of UP's westbound (directional running) traffic to North Platte & points yonder. Trains run on the original Mop mainline from KC up to Leavenworth & Atchison where it makes a swerve to the NW up to Hiawatha, KS. There westbound traffic shifts over the old UP "Joe Branch", which was completely rebuilt into main line status. From Hiawatha almost all trains turn west to follow the original roller coaster route of the old St Joseph, MO ~ Upton Jct  branch. A small handful of trains stay on the old Mop all the way up to Omaha. Over at Upton it's a short jog into Marysville on the original KC ~ Topeka ~ Marysville main line. West of Marsyville all the way to Gibbon, NE the old single main is now 2 main track CTC...
