Wyaconda stair steps.
Author: hank

A westbound BNSF intermodal on main 2 meets eastbound Amtrak #4 on main 1 about MP 275 on the BNSF Marceline sub.  We are a couple miles west of Wyaconda, Missouri.  This area is known by local railfans as he Wyaconda stair steps.  My video.

Thanks for viewing.

Nice look at the Southwest Chief during the mail-and-express era when the train was huge and rated four units.  I'm surprised they still had a baggage car painted Phase III that late.  Circa 2000?

Those were really great days, looks like all 34 cars of Amtrak was doing 90, and the intermodal was doing all of 70. While I wasn't around for the high speed ATSF "Fast Mail" trains, at least I got to witness this era...

After a quite crappy day, this video made it better, thanks...

That's pretty cool!  I just got done digitizing some video I shot in that area back in 1993!

Have to say not my favorite spot in Northeast Missouri (NEMO).  Parking is poor and this is the only angle you get, either direction.  The track is tanget from Gorin to east of Wyaconda and trains can really roll through this area.  However, this is a very nice video and thank you for posting.

I don't have a specific date on this. Guessing 2002.

Thank goodness those better educated twits pissed away that extra Amtrak revenue. Company could have been making money all these years.

Until I saw this I wondered why the railroads were complaining about Amtrak hauling freight.  I never saw more than 3-4 "freight" cars on Amtrak trains through Ft Worth.  This video certainly shows why railroads did complain and stop it.

I saw a phase 3 painted baggage car as late as 2008, when the Zephyr detoured through the Feather River that summer.
