Western Railroad Discussion > Empty Unit Tank Train at Verdi, NV (Donner Pass)

Following up on yesterday's thread on the MRVSP at Verdi https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,5054459, I shot the train that was following it down the east slope of Donner Pass at the same location. I started recording the video when I heard the train blowing for the crossings in downtown Verdi, and I anxiously watched as the shadow from the ridge behind me slowly walked across the tracks, giving me full sun just as UP 7195 appeared. I'm assuming this unit train is ethanol empties that originated in East Oakland, CA, but given that there seems to be over a dozen symbols for ethanol empties that run to various locations in the Midwest, I'm not sure which one it is.

Couldn't have timed that light any better. As for the train, it was an empty ethanol from Oakland, CA going to Marysville, KS as the UEOELK 26.

Yes, excellent photo and video.

Really like the Verdi area. I remember eating at the old Verdi Inn as a kid. As soon as I was done with dinner I was over by the tracks hoping for a train to go by.

I think UP has run a few ethanol trains to Stockton recently as well. "ble692" have you seen any of those Stockton trains?

One of the things I like about the Verdi area, and in general the area east of Truckee, CA, is that you still have the backdrop of the mountains, but you don't have the amount of tree cover that tends to crowd in a lot of the locations on Donner on the west side of the summit. I hope to get out into NV between the CA border and Fernley later this summer or fall if I can, as I'd like to shoot some of the through truss bridges along the Truckee River in the canyon east of Truckee. My other desire is to hike into some of the higher elevation areas above the tracks on the west side of Donner Pass between the Norden and Switch 9.

They have run three since May 1st.

The loads have run as the UELKUI to the Port of Stockton with arrival dates:
5/8/20 - UELKUI 02
5/24/2020 - UELKUI 20
6/7/2020 - UELKUI 02

The empties have run as the UELKUI out of the Port of Stockton with departure dates:
5/14/2020 - UEUILK 13
6/2/2020 - UEUILK 02
6/13/2020 - UEUILK 12
