Awesome! I’m glad someone was able to snag it! Tough light for a morning WB. Get that elevation and it’s not so much a problem anymore.

From another post, the SSPBK, Sparks to Bakersfield.

I saw the heads up on the NorCal FB group that it was rolling from Sparks this morning. I checked ATCS this morning and saw it on the Truckee cam. I wish I had been up at the cabin to grab a morning shot of it at Andover.

PS - You're getting your money's worth out of the drone, and it's all good.

Thanks- It's certainly proving to be a reliable, and drama free, little bugger.

Don't have a good view of the whole train, but it appears this one contains zero business cars.

I think someone’s photos showed a single biz car up towards the front (3rd car?).
I was kinda busy flying the drone and shooting with the heavy Canon at the same time (jeez!), so I can’t confirm this.

SR, You are correct......I found a shot on another thread showing the front of the train, and car three is a business car.

"The Giant's Gap." Never heard that name before, obviously down at American/Midas. (Sounds more like a problem on the baseball team's pitching roster.)

When did they pave the road into there?

TIA,

Rob L.

Giant’s Gap is the narrow canyon in the background of this photo. The most factual name for this spot where the track rounds this point (overlooking the Giant’s Gap) is Gorge. The name Gorge disappeared from SP timetables in the later 20’s/early 30’s and has remained nameless ever since.
(American is about 2mi East).
So I use Gorge. It seems right to me.
SR

I moved here in the mid 80’s (I built my home about 3mi West of here) and the road was paved then.

Well, I SAW #5 go by- running late. But there’s something going on where 5 is being called 1105 (??) but the website tracking doesn’t recognize either number, so it’s made it difficult to figure out where the heck they are!

#5 is running as 1105 on an alternate schedule (2 hrs late initially, less further down the line) west of Denver due to track work now through sometime in Sept.
