Purpose of white sign boards on far end of xings?

Hi, what are the purposes of these white signs? I've seen them for years but haven't ever been able to figure out thier purposes. Many crossings in the vicinity of Airway Heights and Cheney, WA on the shortline RR's have them.

I have never seen one. Given the orientation it is roadway related.

I haven’t seen them either. Are they perhaps reflectorized to increased the visibility of trains passing at night? It looks like they are the right height and position for auto headlights to reflect back under railroad cars.
