Western Railroad Discussion > California National Forest ClosuresDate: 09/07/20 21:03 California National Forest Closures Author: JDLX I'm a bit surprised this hasn't yet been discussed here as of yet as it may impact railfan or other planned outings, so here goes.
Due to the extreme fire dangers in California and to minimize chances for accidental (or deliberate) human fire starts and to protect life and safety, effective at 5 pm Pacific Time today the U.S. Forest Service implemented a series of emergency closures and other restrictions throughout California. - All of the Stanislaus, Sierra, Sequoia, Inyo, Los Padres, Angeles, San Bernadino, and Cleveland national forests are closed to all entry. - All ignition sources (campfires, gas stoves, etc.) are prohibited on all U.S. Forest Service lands in California. - All developed campgrounds and day-use sites on National Forests in California are also closed. These closures and restrictions are temporary and will be re-evaluated daily as conditions change. Edited to include that Sierra Pacific Industries has also closed all of their private timberlands to all public access until further notice as well. I image there are probably similar restrictions in place from other large landowners as well. Jeff Moore Elko, NV Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/07/20 21:09 by JDLX. Nonetheless it's spread to the San Bernardino National Forest.. Date: 09/08/20 08:54 Re: California National Forest Closures Author: TCnR Most obvious example is the Creek Fire where a full campground was cut off when the access road was cut off by fire. There's a hige number of people have taken to the campgrounds specifically due to urban restrictions related to the CoVid pandemic and because of low gas prices. Lots of rental RV's on the road, lots of car camping, everybody is out there. Here's a story about the Creek Fire evacuation:

Would seem access on the dirt roads might be a problem? George Andrassy Date: 09/08/20 09:39 Re: California National Forest Closures Author: GeneL Guess they don't even follow news about all the CA fires. Just go ahead and blunder out there.

Date: 09/08/20 14:23 Re: California National Forest Closures Author: hartrick24 It's a shame they are not doing more coverage on the fires. It's sad what they are going though. The news covers other stuff a lot more...

Date: 09/08/20 22:32 Re: California National Forest Closures Author: Rover Real News coverage died a long time ago. It's now all produced as "entertainment" news or agenda news, where "the real culprit here is Climate Change." How the fires were covered on the PBS Newhour.

That's why you should get your news from more then one source. So yeah, watch PBS and maybe CNN and even FOX. That combo will definitely get you a wide range of points of view.
