Western Railroad Discussion > Trona Railway at Westend 9/21/20.Date: 09/22/20 17:40 Trona Railway at Westend 9/21/20. Author: SPgoletablock - Five aging EMDs all built prior to 1981 lug their loaded train of soda ash out of the mineral rich Searles Valley. TRC 2008 leads past Searles Valley Minerals Westend chemical facility with the Argus Mountains looming in the background. With two of the seven Trona road motors currently out of service the loads will be forced to double the climb to Searles Junction. In a few miles they will set out roughly half the train at the small yard at Oxy, before assaulting the 26 mile long stiff grade to the interchange point with UP at Searles.
