Air quality 02 in Dunsmuir this afternoon
Author: photobob

Finally we are able to breath that good old mountain air here in Dunsmuir. This was my first venturing out to take train photos since the wildfires have darkened our skies. I was able to get UP6691 south leaving town with our landmark mountain and blue sky's a few minutes ago.

Get that picture while you can, forecasts I've seen point to a snowy Winter up Dunsmuir way.
And it's wonderful that the smoke is gone, it hit most everywhere.

Excellent photo and thanks for sharing your good fortune with us here.

I don't recall seeing such little snow on the mountain. For those of you who have spent more time than I have there late in the warm season, is that unusually bare?

That's what I've been seeing since the mid 80's around this time of the year. Note that this is the south side, the remaining glaciers are on the north and north-east side with more shadow.

Mt. Lassen, about 75 miles to the southeast was devoid of snow when I left that area a week ago.  I can't remember that mountain so bare this late in the season.
