Author: Copy19 Here's a shot from the 60s of Lawton curve looking west as an eastbound comes out of the curve with the Truckee local in the foreground. The curve was a great place to pace trains with old Highway 40 up on the embankment next to the tracks. You could see right into the locomotive cabs.

I think you are standing very close to the grade crossing to access the old River Inn (if I'm wrong please correct me). Is the old River Inn still standing or is it long gone? I am standing next to the rocks in the driveway off of 4th before the gates. It still stands, half-done, and the only thing they use it for now is to train Washoe County's SWAT units in the motel section. Joel Kirk Date: 10/19/20 18:29 Re: Lawton curve in your face... Author: JLKirk ... and if you caught it just right, you could pace a train all the way to Fourth and Stoker!!!
