Dodge City - Cimarron Valley RR
Author: pummer

I'll be in Dodge City, Kansas at the end of the week. Anyone have info on the Cimarron Valley RR operations?  Can't find any recent postings on TO. Maybe just BNSF activity in Dodge City these days?

CVR interchange with BNSF typically is Tuesday and Thursday in Dodge. They will run up from Satanta those days and typically back the following day.

Thanks. I hope to catch the CVR somewhere on their system.

Start at Dodge and head West. Last business out of town is along their track and can park trains here waiting to get in or a new crew to yard it. They use the furthest south yard tracks and you can see their power waiting if you look over the turntable. Ex Alaska GP7 next to the elevator on the east side of turntable.
Look both ways crossing the tracks leaving town south as there is a GP7 on the east side out of view and an Alco on the west side. This crossing is after you go over the Arkansas River bridge.

Also, been known to set all weekend in the BNSF yard.
Follow until you find them.
Ensign has a SD50/GP7 combo.
First big town east of Satanta they switch and the furthest west elevator has the slug that went with the aforementioned Alaska GP7 in Dodge. I'm drawing a blank on the name. Satanta has a DRGW GP30 and B39 in CVR paint, and shop here. SD50 west end of yard.
Leaving Satanta west if you look on the town side of road notice a collection of combines. 25ton displayed behind.
Wye at end of yard. South main to Hugoton (Elevator SD40) and north main to Ulysses.
Grain loadout East side of Walsh(CO) that can have a train or power if you haven't seen anything to Satanta.
They do park it where they run out of time so can be anywhere.

Of note, East of Dodge along the BNSF main at Wright is two GP9s at the elevator and one was a BN B unit.

East of Satanta is Sublette, they almost always have work to do there.

The Satanta yard has three flats loaded with 136 lb. rail for their upgrade project. One flat is a converted Halliburton pneumatic cement car. We assume this is going to the Hugoton branch.

The B40 unit is up on freight car trucks now and the SD50 #5108 is cannibalized for parts at Satanta.

And you might as well go West the short distance to Garden City and shoot the Garden City Western.

GCW has three GP8s. Usually at the shop. 2 inside 1outside. Mornings usually interchange with BNSF at west end of yard.
GCW steam engine displayed in the Zoo. Free access any time. Two blocked east of depot three blocks south.
SD40-2 at elevator east end of town. Faces east.
BnSF parking switcher power at depot with caboose these days.

Does anyone have the correct radio channels for them, and their usage on the correct subdivisions/lines?

There seems to be limited or verified info on them on the interwebs
