Eastbound Hump Reopening Temporarily at North Platte Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/11/20 10:34 by SOUCF25. Date: 11/11/20 10:57 Re: Eastbound Hump at North Platte Opening Temporarily Author: Bob3985 Yes, my carman friend told me that a few weeks ago.
They open the EB Hump whenever the east bound traffic gets backed up substantially to warrant its use. Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 11/11/20 12:45 Re: Eastbound Hump at North Platte Opening Temporarily Author: PHall A crack in the PSR wall?

It's got the word precision in it which means.....it must be perfect. No flaws whatsoever. Everything's running great! They just re-opend the one hump because...... precision!!! Date: 11/11/20 13:06 Re: Eastbound Hump at North Platte Opening Temporarily Author: Lackawanna484 At various times, numbers like 1,200 or 1,500 cars per day were needed to make a hump viable.
Maybe that's the magic number on UP? Posted from Android Date: 11/11/20 13:40 Re: Eastbound Hump at North Platte Opening Temporarily Author: Seventyfive UPS Peak Season is rapidly approaching. Time to get other freight clogging up the mains out of the way.

epitome of precision and cost control. Out Date: 11/11/20 17:12 Re: Eastbound Hump at North Platte Opening Temporarily Author: portlander Apparently they reopened the car shop in De Soto too?

I belive De Soto and NLR Jenks were both reopened in the laat couple of weeks, but in much smaller form than they were prior to the closures. So are they going to try and buy back all the equipment they sold at auction??? SW-1 Date: 11/12/20 10:10 Re: Eastbound Hump at North Platte Opening Temporarily Author: JGFuller As one who has worked many years at hump yards, it's always seemed that as much traffic as possible should be humped, so that inefficient switching at flat yards could be reduced. At two yards where I worked, Geometric Switching allowed 9-block haulers to run, requiring 3 tracks, and a re-hump. Those 9 blocks eliminated needless push-and-pull switching in the industrial zones.

The only reason for it was lack of bowl capacity. Date: 11/16/20 11:19 Re: Eastbound Hump at North Platte Opening Temporarily Author: JGFuller We may have been at RV at the same time!
Yes, the receiving yard humping had to stop while the rehumps occurred. But making a multi-block RVFR and RVOA trains significantly reduced switching at flat yards. Also did it at City of Industry for several years, with same savings at Los Nietos, Buena Park, Anaheim, and Dolores. It is a way to improve the use of hump yards, and reduce switching at flat yards. It's always more efficient to use gravity to assist in switching. But it takes planning ... and the discipline to stop humping from the receiving yard, and do the rehumps on schedule.
