BNSF Needles Sub action
Author: GreenFlag

Here are several photos taken on October 22 and 27th last month, all on the Needles Sub. They're posted roughly east to west. Caught plenty of trains and had many opportunities to get shots of meets. Always nice taking photos out on the Needles Sub as it's so open and much of it is accessible along old Hwy 66 which had little traffic during the week. The weather was still hot on the drive out and hazy/smoky from CA wildfires, but cool and clear on the drive back.
First one here of 6726 west crossing a sandy wash near Homer (between Ibis and Goffs).
Next two taken on the grade between Goffs and Essex. In the second picture, a following westbound is barely visible above the consists further uphill towards Goffs. It was ususually hazy there due to the wildfire smoke.

Next two of the 4188 west near Siberia starting up the line seperation towards Klondike.

7980 west from Amboy Crater.
Next one a meet near Ash Hill.
Luckily the eastbound cleared well before the 7980 got close.

The 3855 west with the UP8786 and UP8330 in the consist. This manifest train was heavy and moving around 15 mph up the grade here.
Next one 7664 west near Pisgah with all JB Hunt containers.
This short train may have been the Cadiz Turn with new 3688 on the point. This train used to always have older, four axle power, but maybe things are different now. Also, it was in the afternoon, the time when the train would usually run east.

Another meet just east of Ludlow.
The 8369 east in very smoky skies near Minneola.
Last one of 8369 waiting at West Daggett behind other westbounds attempting to get into Barstow.
Thanks for looking!

Very nice selection of shots. The typical Cadiz power is 4 - six axle units with the end units cab out. They have run with as few as two
but seem to be more back to the new normal lately. Even the Boron is getting six axle power. Great time of the year to shoot out there,
be nice if a few big clouds would show up.

Good stuff! I really got to take the time (3 hr. drive from the LA Basin) and get out there again. Its so much fun! As I've said in the past, its like shooting fish in a barrel. Clean air, sunny skies and BNSF trains all over the place.
