Out on the weekend
Author: oyw

With some free time this morning, it’s a good excuse to post up a few shots from last weekend. I’ll make it brief, starting with a little pool power on Saturday.

1) I first saw this westbound train from a distance while waiting at Summit about 7:45AM, when I noticed flashing ditch lights I knew it was an NS leader so I high-tailed it down to the South Track (Main 3) near Gish. NS 8175 and 4328 were the power on this mostly JB Hunt container train.

2) I finished up down to Cajon Campground with the usual (probably take too many of) head-on shot.

3) Another nice surprise was BNSF ACe 8503, KCS ACe 4044 and BNSF GE 8009 on an eastbound combined stack and empty ethanol train. This made for one LONG train seen here crawling through Blue Cut.

4) One more of the 8503 up at the Davis Ranch crossing near CP Walker.

5) Here’s what the middle of the two combined trains looked like.

On to Sunday with just a couple more shots.

6) Eastbound at Blue Cut from the Swarthout Road crossing, BNSF 7391 and H1 painted 1020 at 7:33AM.

7) Five minutes later and looking the other way, BNSF 6101 leads a westbound vehicle train out of the shadows. I’ve been trying a while to get this shot but haven’t gotten the exposure right until now, plus no trucks were on the freeway.

That’s it for now. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

OYW

Very nice bunch. I wonder where they combine the trains out of the port? No room anywhere for this except on the corridor. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Bob.

Nice stuff, oyw, thanks for posting.  And great catch on the 8503, one of the four motor, six axle EMD's.  Since there are only 20 of them, the are rare, especially leading.
