Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF derailment in northern ColoradoDate: 11/28/20 11:35 BNSF derailment in northern Colorado Author: DivergingClear There was a derailment Friday evening on the BNSF Front Range Subdivision in far northern Colorado, near the Rawhide Power Plant. There was one injury.
It's not clear from these stories what happened. The first link below has the quote "... a BNSF Railway engine had collided with an empty coal train parked at the Platte River Power Authority Rawhide Energy Station". Can't tell if this was on the power plant property, or adjacent to it. https://wellingtonfireco.smugmug.com/2020-Photos/November-28-Train-Derailment https://denver.cbslocal.com/2020/11/27/train-derailment-wellington-rawhide-power-plant Date: 11/28/20 13:04 Re: BNSF derailment in northern Colorado Author: koloradokid My first thought was the crew didn't know the train was parked so close to the mainline/derail, and were moving too fast. Also, it looks like they overran the derail before striking the cars. Maybe a bit of all the above. Just thoughts, only the investigation will tell.
