Central California Traction today
Author: wpamtk

Chased the CCT today from Stockton to Lodi. The power was BUGX 2000 (ex-Rio Grande GP40 owned by Dieselmotive Co.) and CCT SW1500 #1501. The first photo is coming back from BNSF Mormon Yard with their outbound train, second is a going shot at Milepost 10, and third is switching at Lodi Junction. The 2000 is a subsitute for CCT's own 2101, which was heavily damaged by copper thieves some time ago.

Great pics of an obscure railroad. Thanks, of course. What other units do they have???

Wow, I missed the news about 2101. Where was she hit by the tweakers? Right at the shop? That seems rare for an active loco. Usually something in storage.

The rats broke into the shop and ripped all the copper wiring out and destroyed the electrial system..It does not look repairable..

They have four SW1500s and two gensets that mostly work the Port of Stockton (the 2101 is also a genset, but resembles the GP38 it was built from). The attached photo of a genset/SW1500 combo was taken at the Port in October 2015. Since the 2101 is down, they've been keeping an SW1500 at the Cherokee Lane carbarn for the Lodi job, but they needed more power as the train is often heavy (sometimes runs 50-odd cars).

That's a shame about 2101.  The amount of damage copper thieves can do for so little scrap value is amazing.  Do they still have the other two Brookville gensets (1201 and 1202)?

EDIT: Nevermind, the answer showed up while I was posting the question.  Thanks!

The CCT has the 1501, 1502, 1503, 1504, 1201, 1202, currently in use. Today’s Island job had BUGX 1558 ( ex WC unit) and BUGX 1568 ( ex CN unit ) working together leased to the CCT. Here are shots of both unit at different times. The CN unit was in the shop getting some work done when photographed a few weeks ago.

There should be a "bounty" on these tweekers--  they even hit my farm a few years back!  Nothing is safe from them, the absolute scourge and dregs of our society.
Nice photos though,Ed-- good to see you on Sat..

Every now and then they take themselves out. Cutting a power lead on a wind turbine while it's still spinning usually doesn't end well for the guy doing the cutting.
And yet it's happened more then once!

They need to paint out the word "Southern" and replace it with "Central" on that BUGX unit.  - Eric B.

1568 got CN paint but was still rostered as WC 1568 before going to BUGX. It's also ex SP 2666
