Western Railroad Discussion > CEECO in Tacoma Layoff/shutting down?Date: 12/14/20 08:26 CEECO in Tacoma Layoff/shutting down? Author: TAW Saw an announcement from Washington State Employment Security Department that says Progress Rail is eliminating 54 employees Feb 9 for permanent closure. I assume that means CEECO.
TAW Date: 12/14/20 09:17 Re: CEECO in Tacoma Layoff/shutting down? Author: Super-C That's really too bad for the people working there. There was a lot of variety of locomotives being over hauled and painted at that location. sad to hear that. thanks for posting . Chris

I looked it up to see if CEECO and Progress were indeed the same and made the association. TAW Date: 12/14/20 11:47 Re: CEECO in Tacoma Layoff/shutting down? Author: callum_out CEECO/Progress has had layoffs for as long as I can remember, surprised there's anyone left.

I wonder if Tacoma Rail will make it into a locomotive maintenance facility or some other locomotive company takes over? Hope to find out sooner or later .

Author: dcfbalcoS1 With all the laid up fairly good order power now days, I can sure see a locomotive rebuilder, painter going down the tubes right along with so many other businesses that so many stand by and let fall to $hit for worthless reasons too. Not rocket science.

It would seem like it...the problem is that layoffs always make the news (usually with doom and gloom along with it) but rarely if ever is there any news about the a company hiring workers. Sure you might get the "XXX jobs created last month" reports, but never anything specific to balance existing past layoffs. Date: 12/14/20 14:09 Re: CEECO in Tacoma Layoff/shutting down? Author: callum_out CEECO was laying off people right in the middle of the White Pass rebuilds and in fact didn't finish the project on time.

These numbers are preliminary, and always adjusted in the weeks following. The rolling three month totals often give a better picture. That tends to be much too complicated to express in a bumper sticker or three second news report, so it is often overlooked. |
