Western Railroad Discussion > UP Derailment and Bridge Collapse Near Elkhart, IowaDate: 12/25/20 09:50 UP Derailment and Bridge Collapse Near Elkhart, Iowa Author: Agent A Union Pacific train derailed near Elkhart, Iowa about 5:30 this morning. This would be on the former Rock Island Spine Line. Intial reports say a small bridge south of Elkhart collasped as the train was going over it. There have been no reported injuries so far.

The old SP reports would describe that as a 'general pile'.

A span over field drainage could be a correctly called a bridge, so could a span over the Mississippi, not that the media has been known to use overly dramatic descriptions.
