More Union Pacific 'Urban Camouflage' Heritage Units in East LA
Author: MrMRL

About 20 months back I authored a very similar thread showing the dismal state of Union Pacific's Genset switch power along the East LA segment of the Los Angeles River. Well, 2021 already proves the trend continues unabated.

Below...
UP 1139 ~ GP60 (ex SSW 9663), Built 10/89
UP 1403 ~ GP40-2 (ex SSW 7648), Built 01/79
UP 1394 ~ GP40-2 (ex SSW 7638), Built 01/79

Viewed from across the LA River at UP's 4th St Yard in East Los Angeles, CA on Jan 2, 2021. I'm pretty sure this is the El Segundo Local. Can you even see the locos?

What a mess.  With so much going on below and above, it took me a few seconds to find the units.

Actually, I wasn't. The above scene was not observed through the window of a Metrolink car. But let me say that I appreciate the view and comment anyway.

The taggers are at least smart enough to leave the unit number uncovered. Then the UP won't bother their work at all.

I remember back when Aztec Models came out with tagged reefers in N scale and we all gasped, seems the graffit is now worse than
ever. Pretty obvious that on one is doing anything to stop it.

Y'all are crazy, the lot of you... There is no way Todd, or the TO.com algorithm is going to let or even select three crappy-tagged EMDs to become Image Of The Day worthy contributions to this fine website.

Keep dreamin...

It's the Fourth Street Yard effect. If it stands still for more then 10 minutes it get's hit.

Fricken taggers got nothing better to do than spend their limited income (possibly on booze), and a few cans of spray paint I'd guess...

But since it's just cosmetic, the RR doesn't give a hoot, as long as the work gets completed and the customers are serviced. I bet the good folks at UP's Little Rock, AR shops get to repeatedly look close up at these units after 5-7 years and just shake their heads.
