Western Railroad Discussion > Brought the camera "just in case"Date: 01/14/21 16:27 Brought the camera "just in case" Author: wpamtk Today I went to Looking Glass Photo in Berkeley, CA and bought their entire stock of Fuji Provia slide film--all 2 rolls. (They assure me they'll have more later, "hopefully.") I decided to go home via Franklin Canyon in case BNSF had something in the offing, and caught this westbound Z train at the west end of Collier siding. Gorgeous day, but we haven't had enough rain yet to turn the hills green. BNSF has found a new way to tell you to go away, by stencilling "NO TRESPASSING" on the side of the rail about every 20 feet the length of the switch. What will they think of next?

Maybe this was sarcasm, maybe it wasn't. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/14/21 19:51 by PHall. The Sign Police have been very busy!
TJY Date: 01/14/21 18:07 Re: Brought the camera "just in case" Author: phthithu Might have to do with being able to arrest people if they get caught...or some other legal deal that requires signage of some kind. Makes me think of some cases where owners of vacant land are sued by for a permanent easement over their land and the cases hinge on whether the property owner had taken the right steps to prevent trespassing. I think a certain number of no trespassing signs protect against that sort of thing.
Thank goodness BNSF painted these on the rails instead of putting up signs a la Caltrain. Date: 01/14/21 18:50 Re: Brought the camera "just in case" Author: photobob Its to prevent squirrels from crawling over the tracks. It's been used quite effectively on the east coast.

Signs are easy to steal, rails not so much. Date: 01/14/21 23:02 Re: Brought the camera "just in case" Author: mojaveflyer The UP is doing this as well.... Fewer materials required.

Amtrak had to post Hi Voltage signs on catenary poles that carry power distribution lines even if they no longer have catenary or even track account of a trespasser that got fried attempting to steal copper from live high tension lines that remain along a former PRR right of way and another that climbed onto a box car and grabbed hot catenary and also fried. Yup, legal notice required but you can't cure stupid. The surviving families living the good life now.
Go Date: 01/15/21 10:03 Re: Brought the camera "just in case" Author: SN711 BNSF has been stenciling the rail like that in all the areas where trespassing is common, including Glen Fraser, Nichols etc. New signs have been put up as well in certain spots.

I was at a Washington legislative event at Interbay (BN Seattle) a couple of years ago (a date of 1 BC - Before Covid?). BNSF police demonstrated their drone. The officer was an FAA licensed drone pilot, allowed to fly anywhere, even out of direct sight. You are not far off in your observation. TAW Date: 01/15/21 13:02 Re: Brought the camera "just in case" Author: NormSchultze Or you could just buy a Fuji camera and then you could dial in the Fuji film type you wantt: Sometimes Velvia, sometimes something else.
