Yesterday's First Watson Northbound on Monoco Hill
Author: erielackawanna

Driving near LAX yesterday morning, I heard chatter on Channel 55 and figured it must be the BNSF 1st Watson switching El Segundo. I know the job has been running stochastically of late and thought I finally had a chance of a southbound lit shot from east of the tracks on Monoco Hill in Lawndale, California. Set up for the shot and waited for the chatter to stop (indicating the crew was all onboard). All went to plan... and then the horn began... but damn, it was from the south. I'd been hearing them switch Alcoa, not El Segundo. Oh well, here they are running north (and while not as messy as UP engines, because this is LA, still tagged).

And if you're wondering why I didn't hang out to see them come back, way I figured, even if they turned around in just an hour, light was going to suck, and any more than that, it was just the west side of the tracks shot I always get).

.  .  .  Still, a nice catch. And, normally, they go to beans on the way back to do ExxonMobil.

It is not. I was set up for a soutbound shot. The owner is in the shot, in the shadows. I decided to include them last minute.

May have had some repair work done. Those cars take a lot of abuse.

The slab cars are usually all together to form one consist.
Usually the only time you see them seperated from the rest of the herd is when they're out for maintenance.

Or when they use them as a spacer car as they do on the First Watson for like the last maybe ten years.
