GP40 on the main line (CP)
Author: AndyBrown

Well I hope folks aren't tired of my CP stuff but wanted to share this one.  Nice to see this old survivor on a main line freight and working hard, on CP train 475 pulling out of the Iowa River bottoms at mp236 on the Kansas City line, west of Letts IA.  There was also a DPU in the middle.  Jan. 21, 2021.

Thanks for looking,

Andy

Andy I caught that same CSX unit on the 16th in the yard at Davenport   Where is Letts? I suppose if they get tired of looking at CP stuff They'll get tired of mine too.

Hi Ed!

Letts is the first town south/west of Muscatine on the KC line.  Just up the hill on Hwy 61 south of Muscatine and 2 miles west of 61.  There is a long passing siding there where road freights 474/475 meet most days.  Easy to get to and you can shoot from the Hwy 61 overpass with a zoom lens; here's another shot from Thurs. from Hwy 61.

Those signals are confusing.  Siding switch already set diverging and yet red over red?

Lower signal is flashing red (restricting), I just got it while it was lit.

Wonder why it is not a flashing yellow for restricting?

Flashing yellow on this line is "approach medium" or its equivalent (next signal is hard yellow), which is a better signal than the siding is capable of.  Restricting is the best they can get.  When the searchlights were still there it was a lunar on the low head.

Is there any RR that does use flashing yellow for restricting?

Andy
