Latest on SMART Extension to Windsor on NWP.
Author: weather

A dispute on how toll bridge authority money should be distributed is now before the california Supreme Court.  $40 million is destined for the 3 miles extension from Airport Blvd. north of Sants Rosa. However, work has stopped for now and the opening of this segment is delayed until 2022.  First image shows the two main bridges on the extension about a half mile south of the Windsor Depot. Most of the new railroad inncludes double track beginning at SMARTS Railroad Operation Center. Image 2: SMART will use the first storage track in the yard to connect the double track on the south end. The bumber has not be removed yet to connect the track. Image 3: Looking north at Airport Road, the 2 tracks only extend a short distance north.  The track and ROW is arrow straight right into Windsor and beyond.

Imager four:  this is the crossing at Airport Blvd. showing both tracks now in place.  Image 5:  The downtown crossing in Windsor is also complete, however the track between the ROC at Airport Blvd. and downtown Windsor has yet to be laid.  Text and Phots by Mike Pechner

Very interesting post, Weather. That's neat to see the connection on the north side of the ROC.

It's just amazing that the anti-freight SMART people, now that they've run off the previous operator, can't wait to spend money putting
in new industrial sidings.

But have they "run off" the previous operator?
My understanding is that the folks who ran the NWP are now still running it but as contractors to SMART.

Yes, but the former owners of the NWP were constantly trying to get SMART to reinstall switches to service customers little
of which actually happened. Now with SMART in control of freight operations things are changing. The current operator is
only temporarilty current.

SMART hasn't assumed control yet, it's still NWP people doing NWP stuff under NWP business. STB has to approve the transfer.

That's correct, the exemption efective date is March 4th.
